Screen Printing in Lagos, Nigeria
Screen printing, also known as silkscreen printing, is one of the most popular and widely used methods for printing bold, durable and vibrant designs on fabric, paper, plastic, glass, leather, metal and wood. It works by pushing ink through a mesh screen onto the surface below using a squeegee, with a stencil blocking the areas that should not receive ink. The result is a thick, rich ink deposit that produces colours far more vivid and long-lasting than most other printing methods. Screen printing is the preferred choice for bulk apparel printing, corporate uniforms, promotional T-shirts, event clothing, tote bags, caps and branded merchandise across Nigeria. At Rollupbanners.ng, Lagos’s trusted printing and branding company in Lagos, we offer professional screen printing services for businesses, schools, churches, fashion brands, sports teams, political campaigns and corporate organisations nationwide.
How Screen Printing Works
The screen printing process begins with creating a stencil — called a film positive — from your artwork. The stencil is transferred onto a mesh screen coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. When exposed to UV light, the emulsion hardens everywhere except where the design is, leaving open mesh areas that allow ink to pass through. The screen is then mounted on the printing press, the garment or material is placed flat underneath, and ink is pushed across the screen with a squeegee. Each colour in the design requires its own separate screen. After printing, the ink is heat-cured to bond it permanently to the surface, ensuring durability through repeated washing and use. For bulk runs, this process is highly efficient because once the screens are made, each additional copy costs very little to produce.
What Is Screen Printing Used For?
Screen printing works across a wide range of products and industries. The most common applications in Nigeria include customized T-shirts for staff uniforms, event apparel, school wear and fashion brands, custom sweatshirts and hoodies for corporate casual wear and youth programmes, branded face caps for promotions and campaigns, tote bags for retail and event giveaways, and sports jerseys for football teams, schools and fitness clubs. Beyond apparel, screen printing is also used for posters, canvas prints, stickers, signage, promotional banners and product labels. It is especially powerful for jobs where the same bold design needs to appear on hundreds or thousands of identical items.
Types of Screen Printing
Understanding the different screen printing techniques helps you choose the right method for your design and fabric.
Spot Colour Printing — The most common type. Each colour in the design is printed separately using a dedicated screen. Ideal for logos, text, simple graphics and designs with defined, flat colours. This is the standard method for corporate uniforms, school wear and branded T-shirts.
Halftone Printing — Uses dots of varying sizes to simulate shading and gradients using fewer screens. Useful for artistic designs and photographic effects with a limited colour budget.
CMYK 4-Colour Process — Reproduces full-colour photographic images using four screens (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). Best for designs with complex colour gradients and detailed imagery on light-coloured garments.
Simulated Process Printing — A technique that simulates full-colour printing on dark fabrics using an underbase of white ink. Produces the most vibrant, photorealistic results on black and dark-coloured T-shirts.
Screen Printing vs Other Printing Methods
Knowing when to choose screen printing over other methods saves you money and ensures better results.
Screen Printing vs Heat Transfer — Heat transfer printing is better for small quantities, personalised designs and jobs where each item carries a different name or number. Screen printing is better for large quantities of identical designs where ink thickness, colour vibrancy and long-term durability are priorities.
Screen Printing vs DTG Printing — DTG (Direct-to-Garment) printing is ideal for short runs and full-colour photographic designs. Screen printing is more cost-effective for bulk orders of 500 pieces and above, delivering stronger, more vivid colours that last longer.
Screen Printing vs Monogram Embroidery — Monogram embroidery gives a premium stitched finish ideal for polo shirts, blazers and caps where texture and durability matter most. Screen printing covers larger design areas, works on a broader range of materials and is more affordable for bulk flat-colour jobs.
Screen Printing vs Sublimation — Sublimation works best on polyester fabrics and produces all-over, full-colour prints with a soft feel. Screen printing works on cotton, blended and other fabric types, producing bolder, thicker ink deposits particularly suited for dark-coloured garments.
